More houses sold in March this year, compared to 2011. But foreclosures rose too.

There’s good news and bad news for the Northeast Florida housing market.

First, the good: the Northeast Florida Association of Realtors    reports that housing the overall median sales price in March was up 5 percent from a year ago, to $130,000.

Inventory, or the number of homes on the market, dropped 30 percent, to 9,783 units.

Closed sales, however, were down 7 percent from a year ago.

But RealtyTrac reports that the number of houses in some stage of foreclosure increased almost 54 percent in March compared to March 2011. A total of 1,853 housing units in Northeast Florida were in …
